THE SCHOOL

Batea's school main building

Our school is a one room per group class with children from 3 to 12 years old. There are 128 pupils and 17 teachers. We teach Maths, Spanish, Català, English, Physical Education, Music, Science, History, Religion, Computers and Art. The building is not very big, but we have different rooms. Apart from the classrooms there is also a small gym, a music room, a computer room, an english room and a library. We celebrate different tradional festivals during the school year. In november we celebrate "La Castañada", which is a popular catalonian festival involved in Autumn season and related to chestnuts, typical fruit in our country. It could be compared with Halloween festival, though there are many differences with it. In Decembre we celebrate Christmas. The day before going on christmas holidays we are visited by the 3 magic kings, who send presents to all the children in the school. In February we celebrate Carnival and "Dijous Llarder" which is a typical celebration the day before Lent starts. We go to the country and eat sausages and meat. In April we celebrate "Sant Jordi". Our library at school becomes a Bookshop where all our pupils and their families can buy books. It's a celebration linked with "The book's day" and also it's Catalonia Saint Valentine's day. So, it's a tradition that a man gives a present to his woman, usually a rose, and the woman gives back a book, also as a present. In June we celebrate "Water Festival".
