WELCOME TO IES SÒL DE RIU, ALCANAR.

This Secondary State School, which belongs to the Catalan Board of Education, is located in Alcanar, a village in the South of the Montsià Department, Catalonia.

Thanks to the school facilities and its professional staff members, who have been offering their services since 1993, Ies Sòl de Riu has become a point of reference in the area for both its vocational and GCE studies.

The facilities in our school allow us to offer a whole range of educational options.

"Hello everybody. We are Alfons Monserrat, Lucian Floruta and Jose Mari Monfort. We are going to describe our high school. Its name is IES SÒL DE RIU. It is quite big because it is the only Secondary School in our village.

We study ESO from 12 to 16 years old. We take four courses: 1st ESO, 2nd ESO, 3rd ESO and 4th ESO (compulsory courses). After that, we have the chance of studying Vocational Studies (in our school Electromechanical Maintenance or Business and Administration) or taking two Pre-University courses if we want to go to the university when we are 18.
We are about 470 students and 60 teachers.

The first area where you see when you get to the school is the main hall, where there’s a bar, the caretaker’s lodge, the secretary and the directors’ offices. In the high school there are 26 classrooms. There is an audio-visual room, 2 laboratories, 3 workshops, a library, a gym, 3 computer rooms and the playground. In our opinion it is enormous and there are two small football fields where you can play basketball as well. Moreover, there is an area without any court where there are some benches. In the recreational area, there is also the music classroom.

Well, this is the high school but it would not be anything without the most important asset: the human team. It is formed by teachers, caretakers, secretaries, board of directors (principal, assistant and coordinators), cleaners and students.

The last, but not the least, important aspects are the initiatives of solidarity that our Secondary School carries on. Some voluntary teachers go to Nicaragua where they help to build schools, to teach and to play with parentless children. The students also participate in this project because we organize events to collect some money to pay the school that they build."
