The Symposium for DTM Educational Application

The symposium took place on July 27th 1995 in the Tokyo Exhibition Centre, organised by the Roland Foundation and the editorial "Japan Educational Press". Teachers from schools in Catalonia and Japan were able to get together, and exchange experiences and opinions on the use of information technology in musical education. Mr. Takashi Sakamoto, emeritus professor of the Tokyo Technical University presided over the event. Further consultation in the chronicle published in "The Japan Educational Press".


Programme of course activities 1995-1996

The exchange will be in two phases:

  1. Work on popular pieces
    • Selection of three popular pieces from Catalonia or Spain. Japanese students will also choose three pieces from their country.
    • Edition of the melodies in simple arrangements, using DTM.
    • Selection of one piece from each title from each one of the schools.
    • Exchange of work produced at the Catalan and Japanese schools.
    • Composition, by the students, of some new arrangements of the melodies received.

  2. Creation of original pieces
    • Further exploration into the study of Japanese culture (Catalan students) and Catalan and Spanish culture (Japanese students).
    • Choice of a subject, on the part of each student, wich represents the country s/he has studied (landscape, traditions. history...).
    • Creation of original compositions on the chosen subject.
    • Selection of two representative compositions by each school, and an exchange of works composed.
    • Exchange of comments between students on pieces received.
Selected pieces from original compositions will be presented in the "4th Computer Application Concourse in Music Education", organised by the Roland Foundation.

      Akatombo (The red dragonfly)

    • Jindai Junior High School
      Sakura, Sakura (The cherry blossom)

    • Numama Junior High School
      Kojo-no-Tsuki (The moon in a red castle)
